The OPTIMA collection was presented with the “red dot award: product design 2018” by the internationally renowned Designzentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen for its impressive design quality.
The elegant ease of the large format: 60 x 120 cm, 120 x 120 cm and 120 x 260 cm, each just 6 mm thin.
The light megaformats convey a cosy purism and place the focus on the attractive design of the ceramic surfaces. Only a few joints are needed here – offering not just a visual advantage but also an advantage where ease of care is concerned – not to mention a tremendous opportunity for high-quality living and design.

OPTIMA – technical information
These tiles are made of vilbostone porcelain stoneware and are assigned to the DIN EN 14411 group BIa.
Substrate
- The substrate must be free of oil, grease, dust, residues of cement, resin, paint and other separating agents that could affect the bonding between tiles and adhesive.
- Cracks in the screed must be sealed professionally using casting resin.
- The readiness for covering of a cement screed is reached if residual moisture is ≤ 2.0 CM-%.
- The readiness for covering of a calcium sulphate screed is reached if the residual moisture in the case of unheated constructions is ≤ 0.5 CM-%, and in the case of heated constructions ≤ 0.3 CM-%.
- Substrates that which have been produced according to DIN 18202, ‘Tolerances in Building Construction – Buildings - Table 3, Flatness Tolerances, lines, 3,4,6,7’, generally call for an additional compensation layer, e.g. a self-levelling filler compound, to compensate for the unevenness.
- A primer may be required, e.g. in the case of a calcium sulphate screed.
Installation
- When laying large formats, a highly-flexible, fast-setting tile adhesive in accordance with DIN EN 12004 class C2 FT S1 or C2 FT S2 tile adhesive is recommended.
- The tiles are laid using the ‘buttering-floating method’. The adhesive supports on the laying surface and on the backs of the tiles must be placed evenly and parallel to one another.
- We advise using a notched trowel with a notch depth that is 1 step greater than the notched trowel for the rear side of the tile.
- To prevent cavities, tap the tiles over their surface, moving from centre to edge.
Processing
Drilling
- Specialist retailers generally offer hollow drills with diamond bits and high-performance drill bits 6-112 mm in diameter for use in drilling porcelain stoneware.
- When using the tools, the respective manufacturer‘s instructions and guidelines are to be observed.
Cutting
- The cutting tool should be fitted with a diamond cutting disc.
- Apply slight, constant and uniform pressure to cut the tile
Cut-outs
To cut out a rectangular tile element (e.g. for a toilet flush plate), drill holes should first be placed at the 4 corners. This helps relieve tension within the tile to keep it from cracking once the tile part has been cut out..
Transport
The 120 x 260 cm tiles are delivered in transport crates.
A forklift at least 120 cm long is required to transport the crates and pallets, as the arms of the forklift can only be inserted along the long side.
To keep tiles in formats of 120 x 260 cm and 120 x 120 cm free from damage during transport, we recommend the use of special transport aids. These might consist of an aluminium frame with suction cups, for example.
