Comfort and accessibility at the highest level - Villeroy & Boch appoints the Residenz in Losheim am See with tiles and ceramic sanitary ware

As a partner for international project business, Villeroy & Boch offers system solutions for the bathroom. That's also what it did for the Residenz, a retirement home in Losheim am See.

In a society that is growing older all the time, housing for the elderly is a core concern. Among those who value comfort, cosiness and relaxation, classic nursing-care facilities are less likely to come to mind. Setting out on an entirely new path, the Residenz in Losheim am See provides an exemplary instance of the paradigm shift in the construction for the healthcare and nursing sector – away from sterile accommodations and towards cheerfully decorated flats. With over 120 residences, the developer, Victor’s Unternehmensgruppe, is one of the largest private providers of nursing care in Germany. The concept of combining hotel atmosphere with nursing-care services is one of the keys to its success. Domestic services and leisure activities are part of this concept, in addition to comfortable living spaces. The construction project attaches great importance to durability, the quality of the materials used, and good design.

And tiles by Villeroy & Boch make the residences all the more liveable. The versatile Century Unlimited range was selected for use in the design of the foyer and staircase. In their design, the tiles made of high-quality, glazed vilbostone porcelain stoneware are reminiscent of the successful ‘Mettlach tiles’ popular during the closing years of the 19th century.  Interpreted in the latest contemporary colours and designs, this versatile range allows for individual design oriented around the user’s own needs and preferences. The East End tile range is used in the bathrooms, providing a concept that is contemporary and modern yet very natural and authentic at the same time. The sandstone interpretation convinced the builders, in terms of its appearance as well as the quality of the materials used. In the floor-flush bathroom showers, for example, mosaics were laid in 7.5 x 7.5-cm format, with R10/barefoot B slip resistance. This is how residents’ safety, and the standards required in properties of this nature, are taken into account: not least, these tiles create an all-round harmonious ‘certain something’.

The toilets, urinals and washbasins used in Residenz Losheim stem from the current  Subway 2.0, O.novo and O.novo Vita collections by Villeroy & Boch. While Subway 2.0 relies on a minimalist and stylish design, O.novo Vita is specially suited for accessible solutions. All of the collections meet the highest hygienic standards: Featuring intelligent water flow in lieu of a conventional rim, the rimless DirectFlush toilets set a new standard for toilet hygiene.
