Originally completed in 1977, the five star Hilton Budapest is situated on a hill alongside the historic Buda Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overlooking the Hungarian capital, the Hilton Budapest boasts world-class views and close proximity to popular attractions such as Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion. The hotel has recently undergone its first major renovation since it originally opened, maintaining its popularity with business travelers but also targeting a growing leisure tourist demographic and encouraging exploration by locals. New spaces are light and classic contemporary, retaining and enhancing heritage features and artifacts, while also showcasing the works of many local artists.
Part of bringing in more tourist traffic means by necessity bringing in more buses. Due to the narrow, winding cobblestone streets that access the Hilton Budapest, managing additional bus traffic was a major issue. To reduce the need for bus access, a key part of the renovation included the installation of two state-of-the-art glass elevators at thebase of the Castle Hill wall in order to bring guests up to a new check-in area called the Historical Lounge. The installation of the new entryway and elevator meant that the neighbouring walls of the historic Buda Castles had to be carefully excavated, requiring the expertise of top construction and building experts
The Historical Lounge itself offers a grand new space for check-in as well as sweeping views of the Pest riverfront. In addition, both guests and the public are encouraged to take in the museum-quality art and artifacts on display within the area. Located a few steps away is a 13th century Dominican church and cloister. Sensitively restored, it can be entered by the public free of charge.
From the Historical Lounge, guests can make their way to rooms featuring spectacular views. Spacious and stylish, each room has a separate bathtub and walk-in shower. Fittings and fixtures from Villeroy & Boch’s Subway 2.0, Loop &Friends and O.novo Vita lines are used throughout. 42’’ HDTV and black-out curtains ensure each room is a modern retreat.
A vintage hotel and Budapest landmark, the revamp of the Hilton Budapest brings the latest in modern hospitality while respecting the historic nature of the site. Furthermore, it is an amenity that all of the city can enjoy.
