Minimalist architecture with attention to fine detailing, materials and connections with landscape define the elegant Emperor Territory Part II luxury housing development in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Standing over five stories in height, the development sits on a heavy, solid block wall base, complete with dark cladding and metal doors. Above this, lighter coloured upper volumes -  white with wood accents - appear to float and hover, creating a levitation like effect.

Light and shadow are used throughout the design to great effect. Setting the building back from the front and back courtyards as well as the corners allows for optimal solar infiltration. The large overhangs create space defining shadows, against which the green landscape

elements used throughout stand out.

Landscape at both high and low levels creates a rich complexity and interweaving of indoor and outdoor spaces. Spaces flow visually from inside to out, with water elements weaving between the two and casting shadows from one space to another. This blurring of spaces is not only subtle and intriguing, but also intensely private. Natural elements combined with this feeling of privacy result in a calm and peaceful private sphere in which to recharge both body and mind. These spaces for recharge and relaxation are complimented with minimalist fittings from Villeroy & Boch. This includes toilets, urinals and basins from the O.Novo and Subway lines, as well as beautiful Aveo Freestanding bathtubs in which to unwind. The result is undoubtedly zen.
