Situated in the heart of the spa town of Baden-Baden, the Steigenberger Icon Europäischer Hof 5-star luxury hotel has been welcoming guests in new splendour since August 2025. As part of a comprehensive renovation project, the architectural practice DK Studio used modern connecting structures to combine four listed buildings and one new construction in a cohesive fusion of historic substance and contemporary architecture.

Reflecting this exclusive atmosphere, the product solutions supplied by Villeroy & Boch meet every possible requirement for comfort and design. With their elegant shapes, high-quality materials and modern functionality, the selected sanitary items integrate harmoniously in the interior design concept.

Hospitality at the highest level

The grand hotel, already awarded the MICHELIN Key 2025 shortly after its reopening, has 126 rooms, suites and apartments in 15 categories. The hotel’s gastronomic options comprise the Café de l’Europe restaurant offering a fresh interpretation of European-French cuisine and the LUIZA Rooftop Terrace & Bar with a panoramic view over Baden-Baden. For private and corporate events, the hotel has five salons fitted with modern technology capable of accommodating up to 50 people. Located in a former bank vault and extending over a surface area of 1,300 m², THE VAULT Spa & Suites invites guests to unwind in its indoor swimming pool, various saunas, a steam bath, relaxation rooms and a fitness area.

An architectural balance of tradition and modernity

Designed by DK Studio GmbH, which has been implementing national and international projects since 2014 from its offices in Munich and Cologne, the architectural concept creates a harmonious balance of existing structures and new elements. The project in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Baden-Baden city centre called for some ambitious construction solutions to tackle challenging situations, including building directly in the waters of the river Oos.

Sophisticated details in the bathrooms

The interior design combines fine materials and harmonious colour schemes to create an atmosphere of timeless elegance. The Executive Corner Suite provides a perfect illustration of the concept: spacious, flooded with natural light and with a high-quality design extending seamlessly into the bathroom. The focal point in the marble-clad space is the Oberon 2.0 back-to-wall bath, featuring a precise combination of oval and rectangular shapes. Its slender rim gives the deep bath a delicate appearance while also ensuring comfortable bathing – even for two people, thanks to a central water outlet. Made from Quaryl®, a blend of quartz and acrylic resin, the Oberon 2.0 impresses with its great dimensional stability, resistance and pleasant feel.

Innovative sanitary solutions for the highest hygiene standards

For the fittings in the toilet areas of all rooms and suites, the hotel once again opted for product solutions from Villeroy & Boch. In 21 bathrooms, shower-toilets offer enhanced cleanliness and freshness with clear water after every use – with a selection of individually adjustable shower functions including a rear wash, lady wash and an oscillating shower flow for gentle and thorough cleaning. The temperature of the water and the strength and direction of the flow from the nozzles can be tailored precisely to personal preferences. A remote control allows intuitive adjustment.

The shower-toilets also set standards in terms of design: with all the technical mechanisms concealed out of sight in the ceramic, their clear lines are barely distinguishable from a conventional wall-mounted toilet. They also meet the demanding hygiene requirements for a prestigious hotel bathroom: the flush-fitting integrated shower nozzle, the rimless DirectFlush technology and the dirt-repellent CeramicPlus finish ensure maximum cleanliness and significantly reduce cleaning time.

The remaining 105 bathrooms feature wall-mounted Subway 2.0 washdown toilets with a CeramicPlus finish in White Alpine and DirectFlush technology. This technology uses a special low-consumption water flow for precise and splash-free flushing of the entire inner bowl and allows quick and thorough cleaning of the toilet.
