Wanted: A space menu for ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer

Restaurateurs from Genuss Region Saarland use NewMoon as their stage

“As long as it tastes good, that's all that matters” – Saarland locals live by this rule, anywhere and any time. Even in space. And ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer is no different. This Saarland native is scheduled to take off to the International Space Station (ISS) at the end of 2021 and wants to take a dish that reflects both the excellent regional cuisine and the modern-day federal state.

A competition will decide which dish Maurer ultimately takes into space: ten restaurateurs from Genuss Region Saarland, a regional gourmet network, have each entered a two-course menu.

NewMoon – New design inspired by the moon

Embracing this theme, Villeroy&Boch has provided each of the ten restaurateurs with a set of the new NewMoon products. They will use this crockery to showcase their space menu, which can currently also be tasted at the participating businesses.

NewMoon features a pure yet expressive design, whose asymmetrical crescent shape constantly attracts attention. The unusual design is offset by the classic round lines and the high-quality Premium Porcelain in pure white.

The competition is a joint mission between the European Space Agency (ESA), Tourismus Zentrale Saarland GmbH, LSG Sky Chefs and Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR).
