33rpm –33 revolutions per minute: this isn't just the speed of an LP when being played, but also the name of a trendy bar on Stubenvollstrasse in Munich where vinyl records take centre stage – from the cocktails to the menu through to the interior design and guest toilets, which are fitted with sanitary ware from Villeroy & Boch. |
Interior design concept with great attention to detail
Coat hooks reminiscent of 45 rpm adapters, a bar shelf unit nearly 2 metres high where spirits are displayed behind record-size holes under indirect lighting, tables and lamps with grooves – the record theme is reflected throughout the interior design of 33rpm, developed by Michael Faltenbacher, a Munich-based restaurateur and interior designer. Moreover, dark green sofas, bar stools and chairs with cord covers, floral textile wallpaper in warm colours and a 20-metre long brass bar with LPs embedded in the front give the restaurant/bar concept a modern vintage look in a relaxed atmosphere. |
Flashback to a bygone disco and record era
The concept continues in the guest toilets: the walls are decorated with sparkling sequins, the mirrors are asymmetrical. The colour scheme, based on designer Gesa Hansen’s concept, features dark shades and striking contrasts. Circular surface-mounted washbasins from the Artis range embrace the record theme in black and white ceramics in the men’s and women’s toilet. A surprising detail: viewed from above, the spout of the matt black Cult standpipe looks like the tonearm of a record player. The three black, radar-controlled urinals from the Subway range and the ViConnect flush plates made from grey glass that were fitted to the white rimless toilets are also eye-catching. The accessible toilet area has a wheelchair-friendly washbasin and a longer toilet, both from the O.novo Vita range, and prove that accessibility and style can go together. |
