Classic elegance and modern flair – The Kaunas Hotel in Kaunas, Lithuania, its second largest city, offers holidaymakers and business travellers comfortable accommodation with contemporary amenities in a traditional ambience. The perfect match: The high-quality amenities in the guest bathrooms with sanitary ware from Villeroy & Boch.

Culture and lifestyle

The university town of Kaunas, located in the middle of lush forests on the Memel River, which will be the European Capital of Culture 2022 together with the Luxembourg city of Esch-sur-Alzette, has plenty to offer culturally, historically and architecturally. The Kaunas Hotel is located on the tree-lined pedestrian zone Laisvės Alėja – Liberty Avenue – right next to attractions, businesses and banks.

A building steeped in history

The structure of the building housing the 4-star superior hotel is based on a commercial and residential building from the mid-19th century: Shops on the first floor, residential units in the second and third floors. The striking balconies on the façade were replaced in the 1930s and the original wooden structures were replaced by reinforced concrete structures. The “shop windows” on the ground floor were also enlarged. Plans to change the  main entrance were not implemented so that the old doors have been preserved. Today, a superstructure with a balcony, glass front and flat roof elevates the height of the building to match that of the neighbouring building.

Behind the historical façade, the guest can expect a modern hotel, which offers 80 rooms and suites as well as three conference and event rooms. The hotel also has a fitness and wellness area with an indoor pool and sauna. The restaurant “55°” serves Lithuanian and international dishes. The dining area is decorated with a frieze depicting the traditional production of the Lithuanian spirit Samanė.

Elegance with a surprising effect

The spacious rooms are designed to suit the historical feel of the building in a classic and elegant way. The interior design of the Lithuanian interior designer Vida Vysniauskiene creates a relaxed atmosphere by merging contemporary and traditional design elements. A modern black/white look in the bathrooms creates a surprising effect: Graphic décors on the walls, a subtle rustic wooden look on the floor and pure white sanitary ware make the room look very trendy.

Washbasins, toilets and bidets from the successful Subway 2.0 collection were used in the bathrooms, which use oval curves and clear edges to bring style and function into the bathroom. The flushless DirectFlush toilet offers the best flushing performance and is also quick and hygienic to clean. Just like the anti-slip acrylic shower surfaces from the Architectura series and the baths from the Oberon series, which are produced from the patented material Quaryl®. Washbasins and toilets from the O.novo Vita series were also used to create attractive accessible bathroom solutions.
