Villeroy & Boch offers wheelchair-accessible solutions for Kallin golf club in Nauen
Kallin golf club is located in a sheltered site with good transport connections in the middle of a spruce forest not far from Berlin. The club was founded in 1990 and is now one of the most successful in Brandenburg. Apart from top-class and hobby golfers, those with disabilities can also play at GC Kallin. Bernd Walsch, the club’s inclusion officer, is an advocate for disabled golfers and regards Kallin as a classic example of successful inclusion. For that reason, he has installed a voluntary office for inclusion and future golf in Berlin, which is also active throughout the rest of Germany. “It is important to take account of wheelchair accessibility. Older people in particular should not feel embarrassed about physical disabilities and stay away from the club for that reason,” he says.
With this in mind, a storeroom was converted from January to May 2017 into a wheelchair-accessible toilet, shower and changing room.
The shower is fitted with mosaic tiles in contrasting white and anthracite from the V&B Tiles X-PLANE porcelain stoneware range. The light-coloured main surface is framed by a darker border, which is of great assistance to persons with impaired vision. The remaining floor area in large-format X-PLANE tiles is accentuated and enlivened by isolated white tiles. The walls have cream-coloured tiles, which give the room a warm feel. The distinctive cement look with fine colour gradations adds a touch of modernity. The walk-in shower has handles that can also be used to hang towels and a fold-up seat.
