A new district with a high feel-good factor is emerging in the east of Düsseldorf. Why a home feeling is instantaneous and why the quality of the furnishing plays an important part in it.

A new district is born

About 1000 residential units, 120,000 m2 office space and a large park covering roughly 2 hectares is emerging right now between the districts of Grafenberg and Düsseltal in Düsseldorf. The architects at Phase 5, an international office headquartered in Düsseldorf, are responsible for this master plan. In giving the industrial area a new purpose, they focused on developing the urban structures of the location, near the city centre, in line with the existing structure. Brack Capital Properties, the investment company, will have spent about 500 million euros when the “new” district is complete.

Urban well-being near the city centre

The first construction phase created 200 accommodation units as a scattered development on the grounds, surrounded by large green areas. The heart of the area will be “Quartiersplatz”, at the former Hohenzollernwerk power station. The new residents will have restaurants and shops for everyday necessities on their doorstep. The new quarter will, therefore, provide a perfect environment for young families to enjoy a high-quality lifestyle near the city centre. All aspects of the realisation reflect these high demands, from the architecture through to the furnishing.

Planning a home

A project of this magnitude, after all about 1000 accommodation units will be built, does not bring about a feeling of home all by itself. The architecture, design and furnishing first have to build trust in the new living environment. Having strong brands such as Villeroy & Boch helps and this gives the marketing some “tailwind”.

Residential well-being

We offer families a feel-good environment where they can feel safe and at home quite quickly. Trust in the strong brands we have used also helps. And Villeroy & Boch plays an important role in the bathroom. Apart from the consistent high quality of the architecture and its realisation, the residents also experience their new home through the details. Where, if not in the bathroom, does this contact take place so directly, practically up close? This is why we always demand high-quality furnishing in the bathroom.

Strong brands as strong project partners

When it comes to supporting architects in the best way possible, we at Villeroy & Boch can look back on a good tradition of cooperation with the planners. The trusting collaboration between the planning team and the stakeholders has always been a key to the success of a project, and this is also the case in Grafental. More information on the products and how they are used can be found at: www. pro.villeroy-boch.com/de. Villeroy & Boch also delves into architectural trends and their influence on the work of architects s well as everything about bathrooms & well-being.

Well-being in cities

This is what international symposia and specialist conferences, where renowned architects discuss future-related topics, stand for. In October last year, about 250 architects and planners came together at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, invited by Villeroy & Boch, to discuss urban well-being. Matthias Sauerbruch, Prof. Bolles-Wilson and Martin Murphy from Störmer-Murphy all gave a talk. The focus was on the relationship between architecture and the feeling of home – in other words, well-being in architecture.
