The British School of Vilnius (BSV) opened its doors for the first time in August 2019 for children aged 2 to 9, Pre-Nursery up to Year 4, providing Vilnius parents access to the rigorous, challenging and expansive English National Curriculum. The school will continue to grow each year, opening additional classrooms for the new year groups.

The British School of Vilnius, being the first international school to offer the English National Curriculum in Lithuania, features a brand-new purpose-built campus spread over two buildings and is located in one of the well-known and prestigious residential areas of Vilnius, surrounded by a mature pinewood, just a few kilometres away from Vilnius Old Town.

The School

The BSV is chartered by The Schools Trust, responsible for a long line of prestigious, world-leading international schools stretching across 4 continents. With access to this wealth of knowledge and experience, The British School of Vilnius is the perfect choice for those wanting to progress to top UK universities and beyond.

Learning and education at the BSV is a liberating process that unfolds the students’ creativity, critical thinking, and open-mindedness. This vision is important in every step as we create a free space to play and study, one where the transition from game to learning can be imperceptible, with the teacher’s guidance. This has support in the BSV’s architectural concept: the project and the structure of the interior spaces is defined by the school’s vision – to be an exemplary educational institution dedicated to the desire, to inspire every child, as every child deserves the best start and support in life. The interior of the school integrates educational methodology and conveys it through colours, objects, and spaces.

A prestigious, unique, structured, well-reputed, and globally renowned – this is how the Brit educational system is often described. ‘The British School of Vilnius is going to offer the best of British education with an international twist, providing our students with a vast array of opportunities that will help them develop a real love of learning’ Andrew Prosser, Headmaster of the BSV

In addition to hygiene norms, building regulations, fire-safety requirements, the specifics of sound and lighting, the plan of the educational establishment also has to be aligned with the process of learning in its own right, bearing in mind the specifics of teaching and the children’s age. After all, learning at modern schools takes place through experiences.

‘In the course of the project, all these tasks were being addressed as a kind of a puzzle where every detail needed to be meticulously thought-through before it was placed in the big picture, navigating between vision, wishes, possibilities, and requirements,’ the school’s head said.

The idea of the school’s project and the structure of its interior spaces is defined by the school’s vision to be an exemplary educational establishment dedicated to inspiring every child towards success.

The buildings and the interior conform to the top school quality standards that are recognised in many countries and have a long history and an excellent reputation.

In synergy with nature

The aspect of the windows and natural light has dictated the positioning of the classrooms: the goal of the BSV is to make maximum use of natural daylight. In the words of the spokesperson for the school, the main accent of the interior is the several cubes within. They are like an object within an object, creating different functions of spaces for learning, recreation, games, and so on.

In the process of outfitting the school, one of the requirements was to have a high-quality outdoors sports, games, and recreational space. Located near a forest, the school gives away a sense of nature and space that encourages children to observe, investigate, discover, and learn.

All-inclusive design and functionality

The school was equipped giving consideration to the needs of students of different age groups, as well as ergonomics and environmental aspects. The materials for WC rooms – just like the rest of the school facilities – were carefully selected to conform to hygiene and environmental requirements, be durable, practical, and nice to look at. Another key aspect was the needs of the children. The children need to feel comfortable and safe. In the words of the architects at the 2XJ studio who designed the school’s interior, the Villeroy&Boch, O‘Novo kids collection was an excellent choice for this project owing to its uniqueness and the compatibility of its elements; plus, it mirrored the BSV concept famously.‘The wall-mounted toilets with colourful lids, the adjustable-height washbasins for children of different ages, and taps with multi-coloured handles added an extra touch to the school’s vision of WC spaces, said Jurga Marcinauskaitė, a 2XJ architect.In the words of the BSV director, Villeroy&Boch is a famous and experienced producer of WC products, hence there was not the shadow of a doubt about the quality of the products. Villeroy&Boch were the only ones to offer products aligned with the BSV’s criteria: an inspiring design, children-friendly, stylish, and easy to look after, all in one. The style of the O’Novo kids collection fits into our concept of an all-inclusive interior design perfectly.
