On top of the world, that's how you feel in Obertauern, Austria's snowiest winter sports resort, located at the top of the Radstädter Tauern pass between 1,600 and 2,300 metres above sea level in the Austrian province of Salzburg. The area is covered in a blanket of white snow for more than half the year, and a glance at the all-round mountain panorama will leave you marvelling and dreaming. If you're feeling sporty, follow the Tauern circuit, which is marked in both directions and offers sunshine skiing all day long on different slopes.

Ski in&out in panoramic position

The Zirbenhof, situated at 1,752 metres above sea level, is located directly on the piste. "Ski in & ski out" simply means getting out of the ski cellar and into the fun on the piste. Situated on the sunny side in a fantastic panoramic location, the aparthotel is an ideal retreat and place to relax and is run by Sandra and Florian Steinwender, the third generation of the family to do so. Originally founded by the grandparents in 1955 as a guesthouse, the accommodation was gradually modernised with great attention to detail into 18 flats and a wellness area with Swiss stone pine sauna, steam bath, infrared cabin and fitness area.

Villeroy & Boch - Bathrooms: Inspired by forests and mountains

Four flats were recently refurbished and completed in 2023, including a penthouse with 110 m², two two-room flats with 45 m² each and a studio with 35 m² of living space. High-quality products from Villeroy & Boch ensure a pleasant ambience in the guest bathrooms. The Steinwender family, who also run the installation company "Haustechnik Steinwender" in the neighbouring market town of Tamsweg, have a special feel for the wishes of their guests: "Nature cannot be copied. Nevertheless, we have tried to copy its colours and materials and to transfer our connection with the forest and mountains to the Zirbenhof flats."  The result? "Rooms where you can switch down a gear, take a deep breath and arrive in the here and now," say the hosts. The Antao illuminated mirror, whose shape resembles a dewdrop, blends in perfectly in the bathroom. A touch sensor or optional smart ZIGBEE control can be used to create a feel-good atmosphere, similar to a morning walk in the forest. The Subway 3.0 cabinet washbasin with its deep basin and wide side shelves is the perfect complement, guaranteeing maximum convenience. The Squaro Infinity floor-level shower was customised and provides guests with optimal hygiene thanks to its seamless design. And the large penthouse with its free-standing bathtub from the Theano collection with Antao fittings offers a particularly soothing opportunity to relax and unwind.

Keep the world waiting with Swiss stone pine

The defining element, as the name of the house suggests, is the Swiss stone pine, a tree that grows in the Alps from 1,600 metres above sea level, can live for up to 1,000 years, is said to have a particularly positive effect and stands for stability and slowing down. "Come to rest and let the world wait" is Sandra and Florian Steinwender's recommendation. The metal-free double beds built by the local carpenter from Swiss stone pine provide a restful night's sleep. And, whether you're an early riser or a late riser, the Zirbenhof breakfast awakens your spirits and offers the perfect start to the new day.
